Chapeau (French for “hat”) is a fast-paced multiplayer platformer, where you play a quirky hat! Challenge your friends or team up together for different objectives while engaging in mid-air combat. Salt Castle Studio is the independent game development studio behind this wacky game and they are based in Salzburg, Austria. Customize not only the color of your hat but the type of hat as well (i.e. knight hat, jester hat)! Also, we here at myPotatoGames find it quite funny that you must try to land on people’s heads!

    About Chapeau

In Chapeau, you will have to try your best to stay ahead while fluidly jumping, gliding and dashing through beautifully crafted levels, inspired by Austria’s historic city centres. Keep your momentum going to move faster, snatch any objectives away from your competition, and avoid falling to the ground by using the environment and roaming people to your advantage!

    Key Features

    • Multiplayer: Gather your friends on your couch and compete in action packed multiplayer sessions. Test your skills in a variety of different game modes and jump your way up to victory.
    • Hats, hats, hats: Some hats require different playstyles. Unlock and collect a number of different hats, all with their own looks and personality.
    • Fast-paced movement: Easy to learn, hard to master. Allowing you to develop that certain competitive edge while keeping it beginner friendly for those multiplayer sessions with your friends.
    • Dynamic Environment: Watch your step, the environment is unpredictable. React quickly and use it to your advantage or use it against other players.

On Chapeau’s official website they state “Alpha Coming Soon” so we’re keeping a close eye on this game. The creators have confirmed with us that the Alpha will be playable on Steam.

Knights and Bikes is a quirky action-adventure set on a fictional British island in the late 1980s. The creators convey that they were “inspired by coming-of-age movies like The Goonies and classic games like Earthbound and Secret of Mana.” Knights and Bikes was funded successfully via Kickstarter in March 2016, which you can visit to view their items for sale.

The developer, Foam Sword, is a little game company by Rex Crowle (Tearaway, LittleBigPlanet) and Moo Yu (LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet & Clank), who are dedicated to making games about fun, friends, and imagination. The publishers behind the game are Double Fine Presents. Although there is no set release date as of yet, the game will be available for PS4 and on Steam.

You play as two characters: Nessa & Demelza (cooperatively online or locally). They’re tough and imaginative girls exploring the island of Penfurzy in search of mysteries and on a quest to find the legendary treasure. Cycle around on bikes, explore the natural beauty of the environment, and save the ancient island from ruin. Meanwhile, you must rescue the adults that have gone missing!

Deal with enemies in an endearing child-like and hilarious way by using frisbees, water-balloons, a cranked-up stereo, a pet goose (you can high-five your goose), and more. Moreover, the trinkets you collect from adventuring and from the islanders you save, allows you to upgrade your bikes, learn new abilities, and to travel further.

    Key Features

    • Best friends forever! Play single-player with an AI companion, couch co-op or online co-op.
    • Solve puzzles and deal with enemies using your improvised abilities! These include: frisbees, water-balloons, puddle-stomping welly boots, and a powerful boom-box stereo.
    • Work together! Both characters have different skills so you’ll want to experiment with how they combine in order to succeed.
    • Explore the island! Seek out its modern tourist-attractions and ancient ruins, both on foot and on your customised bikes.
    • Discover treasure! Ranging from trinkets like broken action-figures and animal skulls, to the legendary riches rumoured to be hidden on the island.
    • Upgrade your bikes! Barter with adults (offload your junk) so you can personalise your bikes, unlock extra abilities or at the very least: get those training-wheels removed!
    • Tend to your pet goose! Captain Honkers has a keen nose-beak and can help you find what you need, if you keep him fed and happy.

This game offers a completely hand-painted visual art style which gives it a very unique look. Interested in fun and different graphics? Check out our most recent news of LUNA, a point-and-click game. Like the idea of having a pet goose? Check out this upcoming game here.

ToeJam & Earl was originally released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis. Fans of the series were excited to hear when HumaNature Studios announced back in February of 2015 that they were making an updated version of the game. Four years after the game’s announcement on March 1st, 2019 the game was released for PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.

    Story

The game follows a simple story line. Aliens fly in a spaceship while listening to music, someone pushes a button they shouldn’t, and then they crash land on earth. Once they warped earth into an unrecognizable land, they aliens try and fix things and get back into space.

Due to this game being very simple and seems to be geared towards a younger audience, this short and simple story line is perfect.

    Gameplay

Back in the 90’s, games were a lot more simple yet still enjoyable! Either coop (local and online), or by yourself, you explore the funk-inized styled earth. You collect presents along the way which give you items that’ll help on your adventure. Dodging weird and strange humans to make it to the next portal. After you go through the portal, you go to the next level. Rinse and repeat. This game is perfect for a lazy gaming day or for younger kids.

I never felt frustrated while playing this game even when a present/item I used ended up torpedoing me down 5 levels and me having to run back. It was actually rather funny. This game will cause you to burst out laughing at all of the chaos it can cause!

You can play local coop with 2 people or online with up to 4!

    Sound & Music

The sound and music in this game is a mix between old skool and just plain funky. It fits the theme of the game very well and I constantly found myself rocking out with it and just enjoying it. The sounds are silly and enjoyable and give me major nostalgia. Yes, the sounds can sometimes be a little “tinny” and low quality but I believe that’s on purpose.

    Final Thoughts

If you played the original ToeJam & Earl, you will absolutely love this game. Younger kids will also be a fan of this game for its simplicity and silliness. Grab a can of Surge or Crystal Pepsi and enjoy your flashback to the 90’s! Happy Gaming!
