Mineko’s Night Market is an upcoming cat-themed crafting adventure game that celebrates Japanese culture and is essentially about friendship, choices, and of course, cats. The indie game is being developed by Meowza Games, and being published by Humble Bundle, who will also publish upcoming games Forager and Ikenfell.

The exact date for the games release is yet to be determined, though the creator mentioned that it may possibly be early this year.   I thought I’d provide everyone with a detailed article on everything we know about this cute cat-filled creation!

    What is the game about?

Playing as Mineko, a girl who has moved to a superstitious fishing town inundated with cats, you will uncover secrets whilst assiting Mineko in becoming a successful young entrepreneur. This can be done by completing tasks, undertaking quests and gathering resources in preparation for the weekly night market.

Players can craft a variety of odd items, toys, and trinkets, which can then be sold to townsfolk (who are now your customers) at Mineko’s night market stall. After you’ve finished selling your items, you can explore the Night Market yourself, where you can play mini-games, eat unusual foods, and purchase collectibles.

The game allows you to explore distant lands by unlocking different types of transport (which include buses, bullet trains and cat carts). Each land offers new people to meet and unique things to do, dependent on the time of day and season.

There are 16 uniquely themed markets every year which all feature a stage event that you can partake in. Examples of events include Taiko drumming, karaoke competitions, sumo suit wrestling, and more!

The better you perform at the market, the bigger and better the market will become, which may well attract new townsfolk and even celebrity guests!

What sort of stuff can I do in the game?

Some features of the game include:

    • Explore the village and surrounding areas to find rare resources and make new friends
    • Craft peculiar items with the resources you find around the world
    • Barter with townsfolk at the weekly Night Market to sell your creations
    • Explore the night Market to discover unusual culinary dlights and collectibles
    • Play and compete in a variety of Night Market games like cat racing,
      pachinko, and whack-a-tako
    • Uncover the mysteries of the Sun-Cat Abe and Mount Fugu Island!

    How much will it cost?

The price of the game is still TBA.

What platforms will it be released on?

    • PC
    • Mac
    • Nintendo Switch

    When will it be released?

The Nintendo website claims that the game is ‘coming early 2019’ to the Switch console. As the PC and Mac versions were in the works first.  However it was delayed until 2020 with no concrete release date, however let’s hope we can all play the game this year!

Is there any game merchandise available to buy?

Yes! The following items can be purchased whilst you (im)patiently await the game’s release:

I sat down with Brent, developer behind the game for an exclusive interview last year. For some more sneaky details on Mineko’s Night Market, make sure you check out the interview here

Christmas is arriving early for lucky Switch owners in Japan, who will be able to get their hands on an improved version of Yo-Kai Watch 4 as early as December 5th.

Yo-Kai Watch 4++ is an improved version of Yo-Kai Watch 4, which was released for Nintendo Switch in Japan on June 20th. The upcoming enhanced version of the game includes features such as multiplayer, new areas to explore, and a variety of new Yo-Kai to catch.

Players who already own a copy of Yo-Kai Watch 4 needn’t miss out, as they can purchase Yo-Kai Watch 4++ for just 1,650 yen (approximately US$15).

For those unfamiliar with the original Yo-Kai Watch 4 game, here is a summary:

Yo-Kai Watch 4 is an RPG game developed for Nintendo Switch by Level-5. The game, like its three predecessors, features a boy named Nate. Nate possesses a ‘Yo-Kai Watch’ which allows him to see, befriend and summon creatures called Yo-Kai.

Yo-Kai Watch 4 takes place in three different worlds. Each world is associated with one of the game’s protagonists:

    • Natsume (set 30 years after the first three games)
    • Keita (contemporaneous with the first three games)
    • Shin (set 30 years prior to the first three games)

Additionally, players can unlock a fourth Yo-Kai World where the Yo-Kai live.

Whilst no official release date for a western release of Yo-Kai Watch 4 has been announced, hopefully it will be soon!

Japan’s indie game festival is just around the corner, and here’s what we know so far!

For those who don’t know, BitSummit is an indie game festival mainly for Japanese indie game developers. We at myPotatoGames cannot get enough of our beloved Indies, so we are quite excited to see what’s in store at BitSummit 2019, or BitSummit 7 Spirits. This is the seventh (obviously) running of BitSummit, and should be a rather huge event, as BitSummit has been growing since it’s inception. There will be many new games featured by Japanese indie devs that will even be playable.

    A bit more about BitSummit…

This event will be so large, in fact, that Nintendo themselves will have a booth. While Nintendo is not an indie company, they have recently made it their business to support indie devs in creating games for their platform. At this booth, Nintendo has already revealed that they intend to feature such awesome Indies as Cuphead, Untitled Goose Game, and Slay the Spire. Seeing as how Cuphead (more info here) and Untitled Goose Game (more info here) are already on out Potato radar, we will be sure to keep an eye on what’s happening at this years BitSummit.

    BitSummit

The event will be held on June 1st. and 2nd., and will run from 10:00am to 5:00pm. This festival will be held at Kyoto’s Miyako Messe convention center, so if you are in Japan, or plan to be in the near future, this is one gaming event that you’re not going to want to miss. However, if you’d like to view it without traveling internationally, keep an eye out for BitSummit Roadshow, the virtual satellite stream of the event. For more information about this auspicious event, feel free to hop on over to their website by clicking here.

[dropcap]L[/dropcap]evel-5 already confirmed a Yo-Kai Watch 4 for Switch back in April, with a game trailer set to be released on the 23rd June. However, Yo-Kai Watch fans will be surprised (but delighted) to hear that there will also be a Yo-Kai Watch 5. To celebrate the successful franchise’s fifth birthday, a Yo-Kai Watch 5th Anniversary event will take place on June 27th. More information about the game will be revealed in a special live YouTube broadcast at 12:00 JST (on the 27th June).

Level-5 have announced that ‘basically’ all of their future main titles are coming to Switch. Their mission being to transition what they have created for the 3DS to the Switch. This means that Yo-Kai Watch 5 will almost definitely be released for Switch, in addition to the confirmed Yo-Kai Watch 4 and Layton’s Mystery Journey port (which includes extra DX). We’re also hopeful that The Snack World, and Inazuma Eleven: Balance of Ares will get a western release, and that Ni No Kuni II could get a port also.
