Hive Quest is a whimsical journey through lush, enchanted woodland filled with ancient magic, intriguing puzzles, and more! We thoroughly enjoyed playing the demo, which you can read about here, by sole developer Rod Tyson from Golden Heart Games. You can even try it out for yourself on Indie DB or Gamejolt, and Wishlist the game on Steam here. Below are the details of the current Kickstarter Campaign if you’d like to support Hive Quest, as well as a few more details about the game.

    Kickstarter Campaign

You can help support this indie game through Kickstarter here from now until August 16th, 2019 with some awesome stretch goals to reach for and tons of goodies as rewards. Moreover, extra funding will also help the creator personally so he can continue developing this game as well as giving him the ability to obtain new 3D models for new levels and content, create more artwork, and add more voice acting and music! The Alpha is slated for December 2019, the Beta is April 2019, and Steam Early Access around the Summer of 2020.

    Stretch Goals

    • The four different tribes currently in the game will get a cool make over.
    • A wider variety of plants, trees, mushrooms, insects, birds and animals.
    • Puzzles, more mystery and more lore!
    • Crazy encounters along with more spiffy voice acting.
    • More creature pet choices, to keep the Shrublet company.
    • A bigger world! More themed locations to explore.

    Rewards

    • Digital Wallpaper Pack
    • Digital Art Book
    • Special Edition Magic Portal Poster
    • Beta Tester Access
    • Alpha Tester Access
    • Ancient Secret – Your name and a short message in a secret location
    • Easter Egg – create something cool with the developer himself
    • Special Kickstarter Hive Drone Skin

Hive Quest – Strange Adventures in the Wild Wood Updates

You play as drones that are part of a Hive Mind and establish yourself in your new home. Manage your resources, create new buildings, have creature pets find ingredients and guardians to protect your hive. There’s so much more to explore, magical characters and spells to discover, and puzzles to solve in this rich and enchanting world! We’re talking witches, fairies, woodland sprites and more!

    Lore

The four insect tribes mentioned above even have their own pantheon of gods! Each of which will play a role in the game. There’s definitely ancient magic at work here.

    • Mara : the goddess of peace and harmony. Her servant is Yuna the guide, who you will meet very early on in the demo.
    • Angrith: the god of destruction, too be invoked in times of war.
    • Nexir: the dark god of betrayal also exists, but his motives are shrouded in mystery.

    Subterfuge and Warfare

You can create beacons from pebbles and other stuff lying around with the aid of a Beacon Spell. This will beguile the drones from an enemy hive. Furthermore, you can also use a Zealot as a spy to infiltrate an enemy hive and change its allegiance. When there are enemy hives that need squashing, you can grab a bunch of your drones and point them in their direction. You can also bring to life piles of old sticks to make a Stick Knight that will further defend your hive.

Finally, the developer has fixed many bad bugs since the last demo so you might want to return to the Old Orchard and have another go! You can grow your Hive into a powerful kingdom in Hive Quest although just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful view flying around is also a treat! Follow Rod Tyson on Twitter here to stay updated on Hive Quest’s progress.

Fringe Planet is an upcoming survival simulation game.

    Fringe Planet

Human vs. wild has been a long standing go to for testing the wills of the mightiest gamers. Survival games, such as Don’t Starve, test your wits and dare you to think outside the box so that you may not only survive, but thrive. Usually the goal in survival games is to reach a point where you have overcome the day to day grind, and are able to explore with ease. Fringe Planet holds true to this classic formula, and delivers in a graphic style reminiscent of Dragon Quest Builders.

    About Fringe Planet

In Fringe Planet, you awaken in a cold and inhospitable land with no memory of who you are or how you got there. Luckily, you are not alone. There are five survivors with you that also have no idea what’s going on. You are on a floating island with limited resources and only the drive to survive and the help of a handful of friends to keep you going. Like most survival games, the initial push is to guarantee the basics for survival, i.e. food, water, warmth and shelter. Having these things on hand makes deeper exploration possible, and allows the beginning of the journey to discovery.

    Fringe Planet

In Fringe Planet, you will have the option of either reaching an end-game point with story resolution, or ignoring that entirely and dominating the land. Between that and the variety of secrets and alternating environments to explore, this title will have much by way of replay-ability. The game will also feature both science and magic, giving the player a wider range of craftables and other helpful doodads. This title is set in a H.P. Lovecraft styled world. The developer has compared his title to such games as RimWorld and Dwarf Fortress.

    Fringe Planet

This title is set to be released this year! For up-to-date information on Fringe Planet, be sure to follow the developer on Twitter. Fringe Planet will be coming to Kickstarter soon, so if you’d like to be a part of helping this title reach maximum potential, now is the time. For more detailed information about Fringe Planet, you can also check out the official website.

Imagine a giant inflatable waterpark on the sea. You’re with your friends racing through an obstacle course to rescue an inflatable mascot. Your only “weapon?” A Q-tip style joust pole. Now imagine it’s all virtual – with a customizable character and house. That’s UMI – a game currently in development by Another Coffee Games.

    About UMI:

Online combat games have been popular for years and there’s no slowing them down. Despite the concept of these games being fun, the content isn’t really what we’re into here at MyPotatoGames. That’s where UMI steps in and solves the problem in an incredibly fun, colorful way.

UMI will be a multiplayer online game. Set on inflatable obstacle courses on the sea, it’s “capture the flag” style. You’ll be on a team trying to rescue a cute mascot before the other team can. The matches will be 10 to 15 minutes long.

There are currently 5 different sponsors in Umiland. There’s the minty stingray Stinray, the pink narwhal Sochi, the red and white whale Vanilla, the pink and black octopus Oktirome, and the black and yellow sea urchin Eridon. Assumedly, you’ll be choosing one of these teams to represent – or maybe vying to be chosen for one!

In between matches, you’ll be at The Hub. The Hub is a place where you can play around, hang out with friends, decorate your own house, and even adopt an inflatable pet.

You’ll also be able to customize your character. There will be accessories and a wide variety of colors to choose from.

    Watch the Gameplay Trailer:

There’s no release date, yet, but UMI will be at Gamescom on August 21-24 so look for any potential news then! For now, you can sign up for the Beta Waitlist. You can also follow game development on Twitter or Instagram.

There are more wholesome competitive games coming! Take a look at Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout coming out next year. Can’t wait? Splatoon may be just the thing for you.

Role-playing games are a classic video game staple, but many don’t fit the MyPotatoGames vibe. Every once in a while, though, we are lucky enough to stumble across one that puts a unique, and more wholesome, spin on the genre. We think Skjoldur Story will do just that.

Skjoldur Story is an RPG currently in development by Snoozing Pixel, LLC. Set in a bright pastel fantasy world, the game puts the spirit of adventure right at its heart. We can’t wait to try it out.

    About Skjoldur Story:

In Skjoldur Story, your only weapon is your shield. You can use the shield to block attacks, of course, but it also absorbs the abilities of your enemies. To defeat enemies, you combine these abilities with puzzle-solving.

The game is non-linear, so you are free to advance in any direction at any pace. The only caveat being that the final tower can’t be beaten until you’ve taken care of everything else. Even dungeons can be opened in any order you want. The power stones needed to open them are found scattered throughout the entire world.

There are a number of hidden areas. Some of these areas are similar to minigames and help advance your progress. There are also various shops where you can buy items to increase your success!

    Game Features:

    • Full Gamepad Support
    • Original Soundtrack
    • Hidden Areas
    • Multiple Varying Puzzles
    • 5-10 hours of gameplay
    • Simple and accessible controls
    • Non-linear world
    • Planned collector’s items

    Watch the Reveal Trailer:

The game will be available on Steam in early 2020. Make sure to go ahead and add it to your wishlist! For updates, you can check out the website, or follow the dev on Twitter.

Other upcoming RPGs we think the MyPotatoGames fam will enjoy include Town and Scrap Story. Check them out!

Loaf (working title) is a super cute role-playing game featuring a courageous and intrepid bread man.

Wild Arts is an indie studio comprised of two individuals who are currently working on Loaf, a turn based RPG with focus on exploration and quirky characters. From what we could find, we can already tell that this adorable title will feel right at home in the myPotatoGames family. The charming character design and physical features remind us a bit of Gumball or Adventure Time, absolutely delightful and silly.

While the dev’s have yet to release too much information about their enticing title, we were able to find an informative interview with the main character that you can view below. In it we learn that you and your friends are set on a treacherous journey to save your homelands from ancient beings.

Meeting kooky creatures all along the way, you will use turn-based battle to overcome your enemies. We’ve also had a look at some of the antagonists that are currently looking to make appearances in the this currently-in-production title. With names like “Eyelash” and “Funguy”, this game is sure to be fun and funny at every turn.

Guinea Pig Parkour is a comical hand-drawn 2D platform game currently in development.

Squishy, fluffy and fuzzy guinea pig goodness! If you like tiny rodents getting into shenanigans, or are a fan 2D platformers by awesome indie developers, then we’ve got the perfect title for you. Guinea Pig Parkour is a 2D platform game that takes inspiration from such classic titles as Alladin and Earthworm Jim. However, this title puts a new spin on things by adding its own unique humor, as well as a cool 90’s themed level design.

The hand drawn levels add to the overall humorous tone that is one of the themes of Guinea Pig Parkour. We had a lot of fun with watching the hilariously drawn protagonist slam a drink of coffee and go zooming! The whimsical movements in the game are not restricted to the character, either, as we can see the environment you interact with behaves in much the same manner. The level designs, from what we could see, have a very silly feel, and look almost like they’re straight out of an episode of Rocko’s Modern Life. We can’t wait to see more!

With the super cool graphic design, and what looks to be some classic gameplay styling, we will certainly be keeping an eye on Guinea Pig Parkour. For more up-to-date information on this cute critter title, be sure to follow them on Twitter by clicking here, and don’t forget to check them out on Discord. If you like what you see, and would like to help the game reach its full potential, you can support Guinea Pig Parkour on Patreon by clicking here.
