If you are lucky enough to get a decoy duck DIY recipe, then you too will be able to create your very own duck models! Although initially coming in a boring brown color when crafted, there are a variety of different ducks to choose from when customizing them.
After you’ve made and customized a few ducks, the fun begins! Sure, you could just build ’em a cute pond or place them on cliffs aesthetically, but where’s the fun in that?
Here are 10 really random things you probably didn’t think of doing with decoy ducks in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a beautiful game that shows that Nintendo have really listened to the Animal Crossing fanbase. Additionally, they have been on the ball with patching any issues that have arisen. However, nothing can be 100% perfect. Therefore, these are some of the changes that players would like to see in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Even with 40 inventory slots I find my pockets get pretty full. And like, I don’t want to carry that Monster statue or that pool around with me whilst I’m landscaping yanno? They weigh a tonne. So please Nintendo, let us access our items in storage whilst outdoors. Even if we need to build/buy a storage box(es), it would save us some time and effort.
I find it particularly annoying to up to the diy workbench in my house, try to craft an item, only to be told I don’t have the 6 iron nuggets or whatever necessary. And you know you have 30 of them in your storage so have to leave the workbench, get the items out of storage, and then try again. It’s not too much hassle, but a patch that allows you to craft using resources in storage would be nice.
This would be especially helpful when crafting items such as fish bait. Being able to batch craft items would be so much quicker and so much easier. It would be even cooler if you could craft a variety of different items at once, providing you have the materials to do so.
Obviously you would need enough Nook Miles Tickets on you to hop from one deserted island to another. However, it would save a lot of time, and the hassle of going through the same dialogue with Orville over and over.
The changing room is a pretty cool way of seeing how items of that particular day look on your character, and to browse the different variations of clothing items. However, It’s quite frustrating to have to keep re-entering the changing room if you want to purchase multiple variations of a clothing item. Why not be able to just add them all to your cart?
I must have ordered the same darn rose wallpaper three or four times by now, as there are so many floral printed ones, and I can never remember if I have that particular one in my storage or not. The same with clothing, I have like 3 pairs of white patterned stockings because I have the memory of a goldfish. Therefore it would be cool if you were able to see if you already have these items in your storage, or have ordered them previously.
Whilst you can somewhat gauge your friendship with islanders (being able to give them presents when talking to them, etc), it would be nice to know exactly how pally you are with them. Especially if you don’t want them to feel neglected and leave your island. Therefore a friendship meter would be a cool addition to the game.
Some tools last longer than others in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, not even the golden tools will last forever. Therefore it would be helpful to know how much life is left in each tool via a meter. Then you could go customize it and reset its durabilitity (works with regular tools)… ;D
Terraforming drives me crazy as I’m forever creating cliffs where I don’t want them and and creating random tiny ponds when waterscaping. It would be very helpful if you could see exactly where you will be terraforming, like when placing bridges and inclines for example.
If I only have one pair of glasses in my wardrobe, they can only be assigned to one wand outfit and will be taken from my wardrobe. Meaning unless I buy a bunch more, my character is essentially blind when wearing other assigned outfits, like I’d be without my specs.
Sometimes it can be a bit tricky knowing what Label is looking for. She will give you hints and an item of clothing to help, but take her ‘formal’ challenge for example. She suggest something you might wear to a friend’s graduation, but gave me a school blazer. I’ve dressed up as a queen and a schoolgirl and both seem to get her approval, interestingly.
Take the frilly ankle socks for example, you only purchased the pink version, but got your hands on a yellow dreamy dress. You’d like some yellow frilly ankle socks to go with it. Only you have to wait until the Able Sisters next have the frilly ankle socks available. Unless you time-travel, but doggo does a disapproval.

You may have noticed the ability to craft an ocarina as a DIY recipe, or spotted a guitar in Nook’s Cranny. There’s a whole bunch of instruments that can be ‘played’ in the game. Whether you just want to make a bunch of loud noises with friends, or get creative with them, here’s all of the instruments in Animal Crossing: New Horizons & how to get them.
First off, you can ‘play’ an instrument by interacting with it/equipping it using the A button. You may just think that instruments like the ocarina, electric bass guitar, etc, play a load of random notes, which is mostly true.
However, like in New Leaf, if you are in a room that is playing music (or even outdoors in New Horizons), the instrument will play notes/chords that match the particular song you might be playing. This means you can have a multiplayer in-game band! However I still prefer the idea of 8 people just smashing the A button to make a load of loud noises from random instruments, and calling the ‘song’ ‘2020’.
The below list includes all of the instruments that we have discovered so far, and excludes equipment such as the microphone and effects rack. Let us know if we’ve missed any.
The Ocarina can be crafted once the player has purchased the DIY for Beginners recipe book. It requires 5x clay to craft.
The DIY recipe for the Wooden Fish instrument can be found in bottles that wash up on your beach. You will need 3x wood to craft it.
You can get the DIY recipe for the Empty Can Kalimba in bottles that wash ashore. Another way of obtaining the recipe for it is by reeling in a can whilst fishing. This may inspire your player and unlock the recipe also. You’ll need 1x empty can, 1x wood and 1x iron nugget to craft it.
The DIY recipe for the gong can also be found in bottles that wash up on your beach. You will need 6x iron nuggets and 5x wood to craft it.
The Ukelele is a craftable item that requires 5x hardwood. However, it is not yet clear how you obtain the recipe for it.
An Upright Piano can be bought from Nook’s Cranny for 53,000 bells
The Alto Saxophone costs 3,400 bells and can be bought from Nook’s Cranny
You can purchase the Violin from Nook’s Cranny for 140,000 bells
This style of Electric Guitar can be bought from Nook’s Cranny for 3,100 bells
You can buy this style of Electric Guitar from Nook’s Cranny for 71,000 bells
The Electric Bass Guitar can be purchased from Nook’s Cranny for 82,000 bells
You can purchase the Synthesizer from Nook’s Cranny for 66,000 bells
The Grand Piano can be bought from Nook’s Cranny for 260,000 bells
This can be purchased from Nook’s Cranny for 130,000 bells
You can purchase the Harp from Nook’s Cranny for 130,000 bells
The Virgo Harp is part of the Zodiac Series. It is a craftable item, and requires Virgo Fragments to make. These fragments can be found along with star fragments on the beach the day after meteor showers. However, Virgo fragments can only be found between August 23rd to September 22nd.
The Marimba can be purchased from Nook’s Cranny for 4,300 bells
I obtained the DIY recipe for this from inside a bottle that washed up on one of my beaches. The recipe requires 7x young spring bamboo, so if you don’t have bamboo already, then you should go on a mystery tour where you may find an island with bamboo.
This can be purchased from Nook’s Cranny for 1,500 bells

Players living in the Northern Hemisphere may have noticed pink cherry blossom trees ‘springing’ up amongst the usual trees. You might also have noticed the pink cherry blossom petals floating through the air. These petals can be caught with a net and used in Cherry Blossom DIY recipes. This event will last between the 1st of April to the 10th April. Unfortunately, it coincides with the Bunny Day egg hunt, where that blasted bunny Zipper, is inundating everyone’s islands with eggs galore, making Cherry Blossom recipes a little harder to find. So for those of you living in the Southern hemisphere who may be feeling left out, don’t be, as you’ll likely be able to participate in this event in October, when that creepy bunny has hippity hoppity-ed his way off of your property. Anywho, here is every Cherry Blossom DIY recipe in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
And in regards to catching petals, if at first you don’t succeed..
Angrily smash your net against a tree Try and try again. Happy Hunting!
