Pile Up is a cooperative 3D platformer for 1 to 4 players where you play as adorable customizable boxes (Boxlings) and navigate colorful cardboard worlds! Now the developers, Seed by Seed, have made a wonderful announcement that they will be pairing up with publishers HandyGames (El Hijo) and be able to make Pile Up the best it can be!

Not only will you be able to Wishlist this game on Steam, but now it will also be coming to all consoles! Sometime in 2020 you’ll be able to play Pile Up on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and PC! I’m personally very excited by this news and can’t wait to play!

What we know so far is that there’s a hub world leading to several themed levels that have adorable boxy animals and puzzles to solve by coordinating with friends and using fun items. The developers have even added mini-games you can play together such as the action-packed Boxball, Pile of Dunk and Tic Pile Toe! If you want to follow what else the developers are up to, check out their official Twitter page!

Yesterday we had some new World Premiere announcements and ports for Xbox One and Xbox Game Pass during Microsoft’s X019 Inside Xbox live-stream. Xbox’s library continues to grow with its own exclusives and third-party games, and today, we get to add another one to that list!

I first heard of Tamarin, an adorable 3D platformer, during this past E3 as it was announced to release on Steam and PS4 in Q4 2019 (which hopefully means next month). Now, the creators behind Tamarin, Chameleon Games, have posted a Tweet stating that the game is currently in development for the Xbox One! It probably won’t have the same release date but I’m happy it will be accessible to more people all the same.

A Hat in Time is a game that has maintained overwhelmingly positive feedback on Steam since its launch in late 2017. A few months after its Mac and PC release, it was also brought to PS4 and Xbox One, but there were no plans to bring it to the Nintendo Switch at the time. That has now changed! Very recently the news surfaced that it was not only confirmed to be coming to the Switch, but has a physical release date of October 18, 2019.

Get ready for a big journey

A Hat in Time is a very cute 3D adventure platformer featuring a little girl in a big top hat, known simply as “Hat Kid”. Hat Kid’s goal is easy to sympathize with: she wants to get home. But as she is on her way there, the Mafia of a nearby planet attack her ship when she won’t pay their ‘toll’. All of her ship’s fuel (magical hourglasses called ‘Time Pieces’) is scattered to the world below. She must gather them all up before she can resume her journey. Looks like she’ll need to look pretty hard!

    It won’t be easy…

Some rather morally bankrupt characters surround Hat Kid. In addition to the Mafia, there is ‘Mustache Girl’. Mustache Girl wants to use Hat Kid’s Time Pieces to travel in time so that she can become a superhero. In refusing (because disrupting time is very dangerous), Hat Kid gains a rival in collecting her Time Pieces back up. Mustache Girl now wants to find them and keep them for herself!

And so your trials begin! In addition to collecting Time Pieces, each level also contains yarn balls, and Hat Kid can use them to make herself some new hats. Each hat imbues Hat Kid with a different power! Each different ability will be useful in traversing the world across which Hat Kid’s Time Pieces are scattered. Relics must also be collected, as each one is part of a puzzle.

    But it will be FUN!

This cute adventure looks like a great fit for Nintendo Switch. We’re all eagerly keeping an eye on the Nintendo eShop to see when it will appear. The ‘Seal the Deal’ DLC that was available on PC will be included free with a physical copy of the Switch version. (You will have to download it separately from the main game.) We hope that the DLC content will also make it to PS4 and Xbox One in the future.

The Switch version of A Hat in Time will also include a new co-op mode! Check out this trailer for a very cute overview of the game:

If you’re looking for more information on A Hat in Time, you can check out the Steam page. Or go to the official site. If you like 3D platforming games, then look into Tamarin, as well! If you want a cute platforming game you can play right now, try The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince.

Raccoo Venture is currently in development for Steam here by solo creator Diego Ras, based in Brazil. Although the release date is set for January 2020, you can download the Alpha Version of Raccoo Venture either on Game Jolt here or Itch.io here! Diego Ras was inspired by classics like Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Spyro, and Banjo & Kazooie which should all make us feel pretty nostalgic.

One of the interesting features of this game is the ability to collect memorable Special Outfits that will give new looks and customize our esteemed hero. Harry and Gary designers from Playtonic Games showed us some gameplay of Yooka-Laylee on Nintendo Treehouse today and we couldn’t BEE more excited! Capital B is up to no good again and has taken over the kingdom of the bees, Royal Stingdom, using a mind-control device called the Hive Mind. Queen Phoebee asks for your help to take him down and save the day. For more information about this game you can check out our earlier article right here. See below for some new information regarding this 2D and 3D platformer.

This time around Capital B has and Impossible Lair, which is named as such because of its extreme level of difficulty. His Lair is filled with swarms of enemies and hazards, and there are no checkpoints. Playtonic says if you are extremely skilled you can just go straight to this Lair and beat the game. We smell a challenge here. The easier way to get inside and defeat Capital B is to free every bee that has been imprisoned at the end of every level in the game. These bees are Queen Phoebee’s Royal Beettalion Guard and will join you in the Lair once freed. Meaning, for every bee you free (total of 48), they will take one hit for you (including falls) to get through to the end.

    Noteworthy Mentions

See below for a few points Playtonic revealed that we find most interesting. Want to view the entire Nintendo Treehouse live-stream of Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair yourself? Just click on the video provided.

    • Pagies return but this time they offer you an extra brief challenge to win which will unlock more areas.
    • There are new enemies such as spiders from a forest world.
    • Trowzer, a serpent salesman, has returned with deals players literally can’t refuse.
    • If you take a hit and you do not recover Laylee on time, you have to finish the level without her. Meaning, you will not have Laylee’s abilities, at least until you’ve reached a checkpoint (bell).
    • Quills are used as currency to open locked cages and buy items at shops.

Playtonic Games have just made a surprise announcement about their next project! They wanted to take a fresh approach to Yooka-Laylee and added new mechanics and gameplay to this brand new game! If you don’t already know about Yooka-Laylee in general, you can check out our last article about recent updates to the Nintendo Switch and PC versions. Now, we present to you Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, a wacky and adorable adventure and platforming game!

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair isn’t a direct sequel and the developers assure us that they still have plans for the future of the Yooka-Laylee universe. Also, David Wise and Grant Kirkhope, as well as Playtonic’s own in-house composers Dan Murdoch and Matt Griffin have worked together on another amazing soundtrack for this game! Take a look at the reveal trailer and read on to find out more.

There are 2D and 3D elements to Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair – so we hope you’ll find some joy! Also, don’t worry – we have always said we’d love to have another go at 3D platforming, but it wasn’t the right fit for our second project.
