The Nintendo Switch has been released well over a week ago now. As days are passing by, more and more games are being announced for Nintendos new console. In the last few days we have learned that the adventure game Rime costs $10 more on the Nintendo Switch than it does on Playstation 4 or Xbox One. The developer had stated that prices correspond to the production cost of the game. Nintendos president Reggie had also said that Nintendo does not control prices of 3rd party developers.

Today we have learned that producing games for the Nintendo switch is significantly more expensive than making games for other consoles such as Playstation 4 and Xbox One. One of the reasons being are the cartridges the Nintendo Switch uses. The prices for the memory cards increase depending on the space needed. In example a smaller game occupying only 2GB would be cheaper to produce than a game using 16GB. The cards come in different sizes, such as 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB. This may not have much of an impact for big publishers like Nintendo, but 3rd party indie publishers are making games in smaller quantities making the production cost of the game significantly higher. A blue Ray disc – the common format for other consoles are less expensive and therefore cheaper to produce.
