Hardware sales are on a rise according to the NPD Group that tracks hardware Sales. Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft benefited from this. The Nintendo Switch continues to be a hard to get item in certain territories, while many retailers do have systems in stock most times, it can still be hard to find, especially in some European countries.
“PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One all performed well in the month of January,” said Piscatella. Nintendo Switch was once again the best selling console in the month of January according to the NPD group. The Switch is entering it’s most important year. The big N needs to keep momentum in year number two, in order to convince third party publishers to keep bringing it’s games to the hybrid console. Nintendo raised it’s Switch sales forecast from 14 to 15 millions. The company plans to reach it’s goal by March 2018.
The NPD Group interestingly also announced that the Nintendo 3DS achieved it’s best January sales since 2013. This is mainly thanks to it’s fantastic games line up. Nintendos biggest IPs can be played on the 3DS, including Smash Bros, Mario Kart and Animal Crossing.
The Switch is quickly approaching it’s first Birthday. Nintendos known plans for the year of 2018 are mainly Wii U ports coming to the Nintendo Switch, it will be interesting to see if the recent Smash Bros Switch rumors from insiders become true.
