Pokemon Go has been one, if not the most popular AR ( Augmented Reality) game of all time. Today Minecraft Earth was announced that aims to follow the success of the former AR mobile game. Minecraft Earth turns your surroundings into a huge playground, letting you interact and build with friends in the real world.
Minecraft Earth breaches the line between reality and video games and creates a perfect match between those two. Players will be able see reality turned into video game through the lens of a mobile phone. Much like Pokemon Go the game encourages the player to go out and explore, but instead of hunting Pokemons you will be looking for blocks ( materials ) that you will need to create constructions anywhere you like. You can also find and take on different challenges scattered throughout your neighborhood.
The blocks you find and collect can be used to build and unleash your creativity. Much like the traditional Minecraft game, you will also be able to collaborate with your friends to play and build together. The game even allows for capturing animals and breeding them as the official website states “Minecraft Earth features many of the mobs you know and love, along with a bunch of new ones. Over time, you’ll get the chance to breed unique variants, and use them to populate your builds.”
We are excited to get building, as Minecraft Earth will be coming to iOS and Android this summer as part of a closed beta program. If you are already as excited as us about the game, you can sign-up for the Beta already. Make sure you check out the fun Minecraft Earth trailer below.
