Level-5 recently announced in latest issue of CoroCoro Comic that the food obsessed Nintendo 3DS game The Snack World is heading to the Switch. The Snack World: Trejarers follows the magical adventure of Chup and his comrades, gameplay takes place in a typical RPG fantasy style setting. With shops, markets, housing, towns, cafés  friendships and more! It has been released in Japan on the Nintendo 3DS and smartphones last summer. The publishers has not announced any release date for the Snack World Switch in the western world, however the Nintendo Switch port could indicate that a world wide release of the game is planned for sometime in 2018. Check out some gameplay footage of the Snack World below.

But…neither the video nor this article gives me any idea what this game is actually about. It’s called ‘Snack World’ and yet does not appear to have anything to do with food. The graphics (especially in the town) remind me VERY much of Fantasy Life…it looks nearly identical to Castele, at least the bit I saw…but what is the point of the game? I can’t understand Japanese so the voiceover on the video was not elucidating so…I just don’t get it. I can’t find anything that makes this game stand out. What’s the story? Why is it called Snack World? Does something about it make it appealing to fans of games like Bokumono and Animal Crossing, which is what this site typically covers? I’m afraid I’m lost on this one…

Sources are a bit scarce, but watching bits and pieces of gameplay, it seems like the main character owes a debt to the kingdom for taking care of him when he was knocked out. It seems more like a straightforward fantasy JRPG, but the aesthetic is very reminiscent of Fantasy Life. I don’t expect it’s hardcore like Bravely Default, but can be played at your own pace without sacrificing too much. As for the title, it’s hard to say if it really does tie in all that much from what little I’ve seen, but there does seem to be sort of a vending machine gacha for certain items. (Or at least, that’s what I got out of it. If I was sure about any of this, I’d be writing an article about it. Still, I hope this answers your questions.)
