Animal Crossing New Horizons might have taken some time to release but it has been a major success so far.

Animal Crossing New Horizons is the follow up game to New Leaf which was release back in 2012. Fans had to wait nearly 8 years for the sequel to the popular village simulator to release. But fans from all over the world can agree that it was worth the wait.

Animal Crossing New Horizons is Unstoppable

Nintendo released Animal Crossing New Horizons back in March, 2020 and since then celebrated a huge commercial success. The game has sold more than 7 million copies in Japan alone, making it the 2nd best selling game of all time within months of its release. New Horizons surpassed games like Pokemon Sword and Shield as well as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash bros.

New Horizons Outsells New Leaf Within 4 Months

Worldwide sales are even more impressive with Animal Crossing New Horizons selling more than 22 million copies. To put these numbers in perspective Animal Crossing New Leaf, considered a huge success, sold 14 million copies since its launch back in 2012. New Horizons outpaced these numbers by 8 million while only being available for a bit over 4 months.

More Updates, Sewing, Farming coming to New Horizons

Given the longevity of Animal Crossing games it will be interesting to see how far Nintendo manages to take New Horizons. The big N already confirmed that more updates will come to the game for at least 3 more years. Sewing and Farming DIY’s are already found in the code and are expected to hit the game in the near future!

Animal Crossing New Horizons Summer Update Wave 2 was just released a little while ago and brought a bunch of new items and things to explore, at the same time Nintendo teased the next major content update.

Nintendo didn’t take a break and announced the next content update at the same time the second ( and last ) part to the summer update released. In the trailer for the most recent update, the big N announced that the next update would become available this fall.

    https://mypotatogames.com/new-fish-and-bugs-arrived-in-animal-crossing-new-horizons/

Interestingly enough the teaser included a pumpkin that looks a lot like our beloved friend Jack! Depending whether or not you have played any other Animal Crossing game in the past, such as New Leaf or the mobile version – Pocket Camp, Jack is the recuring Halloween character in the Animal Crossing series.

Halloween has always been a pretty big holiday in the world of Animal Crossing with major events taken place, villagers exchanging candy and Jack swinging by for even more fun.

With a Nintendo Direct teased for the week of August 24th, we might get a first peak at the upcoming update!

Halloween in Animal Crossing New Horizons

For the first time in an Animal Crossing game, New Horizons delivers seasonal events via an update to avoid players time traveling and experiencing events out of season. This also goes for this years Halloween event.

There is currently no information on what this years spooky event will entail, what we do know is that our islanders will contribute by decorating their homes and store fronts! Much like the town plaza transformed into an easter wonderland last spring.

During a Nintendo Direct gameplay reveal we got our first look at some of the Halloween decorations taken place in New Horizons. Take a look at the Nooks Cranny during the fall time! These pumpkins and tiny spiderwebs are the cutest.

The second wave of the Animal Crossing New Horizons Update is here and with it comes some more evidence pointing at vegetable farming, sewing, cooking and even new Gyroids!

Not so long ago I talked about the possibility of advanced gardening and new vegetable crops coming to Animal Crossing New Horizons. With the latest update now live on the Nintendo eShop, infamous data miner Ninji has once again dug deep into the update files and of course, once again found some interesting bits and pieces.

    Gyroids are making a return

    Animal crossing new horizons gyroids

This has long been rumored and Ninji can confirm that Nintendo is currently planning and working on bringing the adorable collection back into the game with more changes included hidden deep in the latest update.

This has frequently been discussed with Gyroids already in the game files but not yet enabled for collection. I can’t wait to start up my Gyroid collection again!

    Tomatoes, Potatoes and more!

But this is not all, Ninji pointed out that he found game files with the following names: VgtTomato’, ‘VgtWheat’, ‘VgtSugarCane’, ‘VgtPotato’, ‘VgtCarrot’, ‘VgtSquash’.

These are file names for what appears to be tomatoes, wheat, sugar canes, potato, carrots and squash. This ties in with the fact that food dishes are not currently part of the game. Players have noticed the mysterious absence of anything edible. This could be in preparation of the upcoming “rumored” cooking feature that will let players plant vegetables and use a kitchen to prepare meals.

    Sewing and hidden DIYs

    able sisters

Ninji also noticed some hidden references to sewing and cooking DIYs. While the cooking DIY’s will tie in with vegetable farming, it us currently unclearer how sewing could work in the game. According to the datamine, Ninji said that sewing will also introduce new dedicated DIY recipes. We will have to wait a little longer to see what Nintendo is planning to do with this feature!

It is very common in gaming development to include unreleased features in an update. These new additions are not available to the player yet, as they are still incomplete. However, as there are many developers working simultaneously on different features but on the same game, parts of codes are committed prior to being completed, thus making it into the games code but not the actual gameplay just yet.

Please do keep in mind that these are not confirmed features at this point, while it is extremely likely we will see these things in upcoming updates, nothing is confirmed until Nintendo shares official details with us.

Hopefully we will be able to experience these features including cooking, more farming and even sewing in the very near feature!

Hands down, one of the initial most disappointing things upon beginning playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the complete lack of Save Data Backup.

The Big N have been reluctant to add the feature for nearly a whole year now. Their recent ACNH summer update pt 2 trailer seems to demonstrate a change of heart. the trailer, which can be viewed below, mentions one of the features to be implemented in the imminent update, will be an Island Backup & Restoration feature.

It’s important to remember that not all good things come at once. And good things can take time. Therefore there will always be some who are disappointed in one of the latest updates/features. Ironically, many were pleading for even something like this to safeguard their ACNH save data.

When it was unsure if any save data backup would be a feature in ACNH Now that the Island Backup & Restoration feature has arrived some people are still wrinkling their nose at the somewhat primitive, and admittedly not foolproof new feature, even though using it may well save their bacon.

For those who were looking forward to the official Save Data Cloud Functionality used in many other Nintendo Switch Online games needn’t fear! As this will also be introduced to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, just a little later on. Both save data backup options offer players gifts, but the Save Data Cloud Funcitonality in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is believed to give/bring better gifts.

Custom Fireworks and Dreaming come to Animal Crossing New Horizons

If you haven’t already checked it out, the next update coming to New Horizons will re-introduce Dream Suit and custom firework patterns with weekly events! Take a look at the update right here.
