[dropcap]Z[/dropcap]elda: Breath of the Wild was a major breakthrough in the franchise. It was the first open world game in the series, with an endless amount of exploration. Open world video games like the latest Zelda have only appeared on PC, Playstation 4 or Xbox One until now, it was the first time a game this size made it onto a Nintendo Console.

Aonuma the producer of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has stated in a recent interview with Famitsu, that future games in the world of Zelda will all feature open world gameplay. It will be interesting to see on how Zelda will evolve from here. Before the game was released on the Nintendo Switch, Aonuma also hinted at an upcoming Zelda designed as an Open World Multiplayer game. Taking the games huge open world online, would be the next major step forward in the franchise. It would follow games like Skyrim, which will be coming to Nintendo Switch in fall of 2017, and will bring it’s massive world to Nintendos new Hybrid console.

“The two-player functionality of Hyrule Warriors is actually something that has traditionally been done in the Dynasty Warriors series, but they’ve changed because of the hardware and the second screen on your GamePad. Instead of having a splitscreen on the television, you have one-player playing on the television and one on the GamePad. When I was talking back about making Zelda more than just a single-player experience? That’s something you will see in the future, maybe next year.” – Aonuma

Zelda has rarely explored multiplayer options in the past. Zelda: Triforce Heroes on Nintendo 3SDS was one of the only major titles based on multiplayer. It was received with average reviews, however, playing the dungeons and solving the puzzles with friends was considerably fun and very well well designed. Zelda might not start competing with Online multiplayer games like Elder Scrolls Online or World of Warcraft anytime soon, but perhaps it can provide ways to invite selected friends into your very own Zelda Universe. Would you enjoy an Open World Multiplayer Game set in the Zelda Universe? Let us know in the comments below.
